Sitting at the heart of energy and process industries, the new generation of increasingly flexible control systems now utilize open standards and extended communication protocols as well as enabling connectivity to external networks, and cloud solutions. These technological changes have brought huge operational benefits but at the same time they have also introduced cyber security concerns predominantly in office or enterprise IT systems. This means that it is essential for the DCS to have the capability to minimize security risks.
The certificate issued to ABB’s System 800xA 6.1.1, by exida, an independent assessment organization, provides validation of its cyber security solutions. The recently awarded ISASecure certification is based on the automation industry’s leading standard - ISA/IEC62443* designed to help energy and process industries deal with dynamic cyber environments.

The system level (SSA) certification is in addition to component certifications (CSA) already obtained for System 800xA’s AC 800M controller portfolio. To achieve this, ABB also demonstrated that its product development organization meets the expectations for maintaining a secure development life-cycle (SDLA).
